PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

While local anesthesia (such as is used by your dentist) will suffice in many cases, our office offers general anesthesia for more complicated procedures such as wisdom teeth removal, implant treatment, multiple extractions and removal of infected teeth.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

·         Your mouth and teeth should be clean prior to surgery. Please brush and floss before your appointment.

·         Patients under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

·         Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing, preferably with short sleeves. Do not wear a tight collar or necktie.

·         Plan for a soft food diet (such as lukewarm soup, ice cream, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, pasta) for a day or two following surgery.

·         Restrictions following surgery include no physical/strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 1 week

·         If you are taking medications, you may take them on your regular schedule with a small sip of water.

PATIENTS HAVING GENERAL ANESTHESIA OR IV SEDATION:

·         Follow all general instructions (above).

·         Do NOT eat or drink anything (including water, gum or candy) for 6 hours prior to surgery. A sip of water is allowed to take your normal medications.

·         Bring a responsible adult to remain in the office during your surgery and drive you home.

·         No driving for at least 24 hours after the procedure.

·         The profound effects of the anesthesia will wear off approximately 30 minutes following surgery, after which you will be discharged from our office. However, because of the residual effects of the medication, you should plan to go home and remain in bed for the remainder of the day.

·         Avoid the use of any marijuana or THC products 24 hours prior to appointment

IMPLANT AND LARGE BONE GRAFT PATIENTS ONLY:

• Your antibiotic will be sent to your preferred pharmacy. You will start this 3 days prior to your surgery along with the mouth rinse you were given at the office.

**PLEASE BE AWARE YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME MAY CHANGE. WE WILL CONTACT YOU BY PHONE PRIOR TO YOUR SURGERY DAY TO CONFIRM YOUR ARRIVAL TIME. FAILURE TO REACH YOU MAY RESULT IN YOUR SURGERY BEING CANCELLED. PLEASE BE SURE TO RETURN ANY CALLS FROM OUR OFFICE. **
